engagement-rings

How do you make sure that the engagement you are buying for the one you love is genuine and authentic? How much money are you going to spend on it and why? What should you primarily look forward to that speck of diamond on the ring?

When you are buying diamond engagement rings then make sure that you definitely buy something that is certified with AGS or a GIA. This is extremely important as you will not run into the risk of buying illegally traded or faux diamond for all your money. So make sure that whatever you pay for is worth your money as otherwise you might just as well end up paying for something that you would regret later. When you get a certified piece you also pave the way for future investment of your jewel, if ever the need be!

While some dealers value caret over any other aspect of a diamond, a diamond is as valuable as its physical flawlessness. It is obvious that bigger pieces will weigh and charge more but of course it is the flawless variety that gets the highest amount of attention. A massive hue and cry is made from all across the globe for diamonds that are genuine and not illegally traded, which is a good thing. You need to watch the reality based movie “Blood Diamonds” starring Leonardo Di Caprio, to understand the actual story that goes behind the gory path of unauthorized diamond dealing. So be aware! Is there blood of the masses on the stone glittering your beloved’s ring finger?

Check out your budget and the market and with the wonderful variation available in the engagement ring scenario, you are surely going to be spoilt for choice. But you will just have to go for an authentic place and then only can you expect to be fully satisfied with the results you get, no matter what size and dimension, make sure you have “the one’ that looks best on your love.

Also learn that many jewelers would wish to push sell you a diamond engagement rings with the idea that it would make for a great piece of investment for the future. But its no use getting bought into the idea as you are going to have plenty of instances where the value of the diamond you had just bought would not increase. Some kinds of diamond engagement rings may or may not have a hike in their values but make sure always that you have a certified diamond. Its obvious that you are not going to buy diamond engagement rings with the purpose of looking forward for a later investment, but you surely would like to know that it is worth all the money you spend on it. For this purpose nothing better than an authentic certificate is going to help you. So before you make the purchase make sure you tell the retailer that your stone is verified to be on the trail of being conflict-free. This is more important than any piece of investment as this definitely tests the true symbol of your love rather than any materialistic purpose, it is a greater moral concern that ought to be present within all of us.

Cubic Zirconia (CZ) Fakes

Many customers ask me how they can be assured that what they are purchasing is really a diamond. Don’t worry. Unless you are buying it from someone off the street this shouldn’t be a concern. As long as you follow my J.Q.S. you will have no problems.

Cubic zirconia is a diamond simulant that looks similar to a diamond. Now keep in mind there is a big difference between a simulant and a synthetic. A simulant is something that looks similar to a diamond-that’s all. It doesn’t have any of the same properties that a diamond has. It’s not as hard, it doesn’t sparkle the same, and it’s not as durable. A synthetic is something that has all the same properties as a diamond. It’s as hard, sparkles the same, and is durable. Don’t confuse a C.Z. with a synthetic gemstone; it is not. It is a simulant. There are no synthetic diamonds on the market that a consumer can buy; there are only simulants. And no matter which simulant you buy, because the stone does not have the same hardness as a diamond it will not last. A simulant is not forever; a diamond is.

The Vanishing Act

Now you see the carbon; now you don’t! There is a diamond enhancement process for removing carbon inside a diamond using a laser. The process is called laser drilling. This is how the process works: they take a diamond that has black carbon inside the stone, and then zap the diamond, hence removing the carbon.

The problem with this process is that a diamond that has been lasered will have a tunnel from the outside of the diamond to where the carbon used to be. Usually the tunnel is not visible with your own eyes, but it is visible with magnification. If a diamond has been laser drilled quite a bit, the stone’s overall durability can be affected. The advantage to this process is if you own a diamond that has a large black inclusion; it could be zapped out, making the diamond visually more attractive. The resale value of a laser drilled diamond is usually less than that of one that has not been lasered. The FTC states that it is an unfair trade practice to sell a laser drilled diamond without disclosing that fact to the consumer.

The Biggest Crime of All

What’s the biggest crime of all? Ignorance! Ignorance on the part of the jeweler and ignorance on the part of the customer. Over 80 percent of all jewelers who sell diamonds are not gemologists and know very little about the quality of diamonds.

Their philosophy is very simple. “Look at all the pretty diamonds and pick the one you like!” The only way to change this is for more customers to become educated, in turn forcing jewelers to become educated so they can compete. You might ask yourself, Why are good quality diamonds so scarce? It’s because there aren’t enough educated customers asking for good quality diamonds. When everyone becomes quality conscious, jewelers will be forced to carry good quality diamonds.

Jewelry Pearls

Pearls If you ask Oscar-winning actress Shirley MacLaine about her favorite costume jewelry, she would come out with one reply - the Tahitian black pearl necklace. The sheen, elegance and visual appeal in black pearl necklaces are so spontaneous that few can close the eyes to them.Compared to diamonds, pearl necklaces might not have the sparkle and flare, but they give the wearer a warm, subtle touch of class and grace that snatch people’s attention on the spot. There are quite a few types of pearl necklaces available in the market.

Collar pearl necklaces measure 10″ to 13″ in length and are just about right for the neck of a lady. These pearl necklaces are highly recommended and go well with tight fitting attires. Choker pearl necklaces measure between 14″ to 16″ - these items are intended to wrap closely round a woman’s neck. These pearl necklaces are ideal for low cut necklines or turtle neck tops. Princess pearl necklaces measures between 17″ and 20″ and these items are indeed fit for a princess. Matinee pearl necklaces are of a rather longer length (20″ to 24″). They look great with summer or more casual dresses. Opera pearl necklaces vary between 28″ and 34″ and are good for loose fitting dresses or sweaters. Rope pearl necklaces measure 45″ or more and are in fact huge strands of pearls that are worn wrapped round in several loops or in knots.

If you are seriously thinking of buying pearl necklaces for your girl or want to present one to your wife or partner, please do not rush. There are a few things to consider before you make a purchase.

First of all, establish a price range that you are likely going to spend. Secondly, decide on the type of pearls that attracts you most - whether you want Akoya, Freshwater, South Sea or Tahitian. Mind you, each type is unique in color, shape, size and price. However as a thumb rule, South Sea is more expensive than Freshwater. Your next decision should be on the length of the pearl necklaces, a brief account of which has already been given above.

A word of caution: Price of pearl necklaces need not depend on its length only; there are other factors that determine the selling price of pearl necklaces.

Your final decision would be on color, size, shape and quality that are likely to meet your price range. Remember, the color and luster is the two vitally important qualities that require special attention. Also, there are various grading systems to identify the surface quality of pearls and a reputable jeweler would not hesitate to acquaint you with them. Armed thus, you may take a deep breath and plunge headlong.

The finest pearl necklaces await you.
